Today we initiate Advent, our abundant time of anticipation and preparation. Advent is the season of preparing and waiting. We prepare our hearts to remember Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago, and for his glorified body. We do not know when Jesus will come again, but when he does, all of creation will be drawn into God. We will be preparing for Christmas for the next four weeks; that is the time when we celebrate the Incarnation of God (God came to us in the human form of Jesus). The story in today’s Gospel (Mark 13: 33-37) warns us to be alert for Jesus’ Second Coming for we don’t know when that will occur. We reminder ourselves to be more alert to the signs of God’s presence.
This week is the beginning of SLCS Advent wreath at Community Prayer on Monday. Tuesday, December 5th, the PTC meeting will begin at 6 in Naegelin Hall and the 2nd & 3rd Grade entertainment presentations and a Christmas activity following. On Wednesday at Community Pray the 2nd grade will present Togo for Missionary Childhood; 3rd grade will assist the Development Council with St. Vincent De Paul at 5:15-6:15; and Advisory Council will meet at 6:15. We will not have Thursday Mass on the 7th; we will have Mass on Friday, December 8th (Solemnity of the Immaculate Mary) at 2:00pm. Kindergarten will present at Flag Raising.
Here at SLCS we ask ourselves how we can prepare our heart to meet Jesus. As we prepare to celebrate Jesus’ birth, we ask God’s help to be alert of His presence among us and ways we can make our hearts ready to celebrate Christmas.
In the Spirit of Christ,
