The curriculum for St. Louis Catholic School is varied and directed at preparing our students as lifelong learners.
Technology
Technology is a focus for all of our curriculum. Students in Kinder - 5th grades are provided with a Chromebook which is available for them to use in their classroom. Chromebooks are used for curriculum extension projects, research, campus approved websites, and enrichment activities.
Keyboarding without Tears is used to teach typing skills to students in Kinder - 5th in during Technology.
Reading and Language Arts
The Reading and Language Arts Curriculum is supported with our adoption of the new Journeys: Catholic Identities textbooks. This resource for Kinder - 5th grades challenges our readers with Catholic based stories, which not only assist in instilling strong moral values, but the research based model encourages all readers to be lifelong learners.
Reading
All students in Kinder - 5th grades participate in Accelerated Reader. Students are assessed each grading period which assure the students are reading on appropriate, individual reading level. In addition to the reading and language curriculum, students at SLCS gain confidence and public speaking experience as the different grade levels participate in our Children’s Mass every week.
Science
Our Science curriculum for Kinder - 5th is supported by HMH, Science Fusion textbooks. In addition to our textbook adoption the school has a fully equipped science laboratory. Students in 3rd - 5th grades enjoy the exciting, hands-on approach to science and learn the scientific method and inquiry through challenging experiments. Every year, SLCS hosts a Science Fair which allows students in grades 3K - 5th to participate.
Social Studies
Studies Weekly is a weekly news supplement which our students use to supplement our Social Studies curriculum and textbook, We Live Together.
Handwriting
Handwriting without Tears is used in grades 3K - 5th, to enhance our curriculum in writing.
Math
Our Math curriculum is supported with the Pearson’s Envision Math textbook as well as several research based electronic programs to increase basic math skills and achieve critical thinking levels and expectations. Students also participate in the Accelerated Math program where challenging assignments are issued based on their individual math skill level.
Religion
Daily lessons based in our Catholic faith are supported with relevant, thought-provoking and age appropriate assignments with our textbook RCL Benzinger, Be My Disciples in Kinder - 5th and Stories of God’s Love at the Preschool level.
Franklin Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is implemented daily in 3K – 5th grades.
3K and 4K Curriculum
Students in 3K and 4K are exposed to the Zaner-Bloser Happily Ever After program on a daily basis. By using the Happily Ever After program, our students are not being served in a day-care program but receive daily instruction in Language Arts and Math skills as well as the all-important social skills development.
Physical Education
3K - 5th grades participate in Physical Education and Health Classes daily with emphasis on guidance, teamwork and sportsmanship.
